SpotCrime
The Swissvale Police Department is partnering with SpotCrime which allows us to share crime / incident-related data in a much more efficient manner that also complies with the standards set forth in the Criminal History Records Information Act. The new system involves an interactive community crime map that provides general locations of crime to the residents.
How it works: Information from daily police reports goes into a spreadsheet, which is then pulled into mapping software.
- Go to the SpotCrime website.
- Select Swissvale on the home page
- Sort the crime by many details, such as date range, type of crime, etc.
The crime reports will be mapped for you.
A free app is available for Android and Apple devices. You can sign up for alerts based on the location you choose.
Crime mapping helps give a better idea of the crime activity in your area so you can make more informed decisions about how to stay safe. Our crime map helps us serve you better by reducing crime and improving public safety.
Uniform Crime Report
The Swissvale Police Department participates in the Uniform Crime Reporting database that is maintained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Crime Data Explorer allows crime statistic information to be search.
The information provided is divided into two sections. The first, referred to as "Part I" crimes, includes murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Also included in this category are burglary, theft and auto theft. The second category is referred to as "Part II" crimes. Part II crimes are all other crimes for which data is gathered that are not included in the Part I crimes.
