Mission

Trees in public spaces are a resource which provides great benefit to people, wildlife, and the ecosystem. The mission of the Shade Tree Committee is to ensure that trees within the Borough of Swissvale are planted, maintained, and fostered with due regard for public safety, economy, education, and enjoyment.

Interested in learning how to prune trees? Join the Swissvale Shade Tree Advisory Committee on April 13, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. for a pruning workshop to be conducted by Jan Raether from Nine Mile Run Watershed Association.  Trees on Schoyer, Aurelius, Michigan, and Harrison Streets, planted by the Shade Tree Committee over the last few years, will be used for this workshop.   Interested residents should bring pruning shears, handsaws, and/or clippers if they have them.  Look for the SSTAC tent by the intersections of Aurelius, Oak Grove, and Harrison Streets.
